Naz Reid's sister fatally shot in New Jersey; boyfriend arrested and charged with murder
Toraya Reid, 28, was shot multiple times Saturday; police say boyfriend Shaquille Green was found fleeing the scene and taken into custody

Naz Reid, a forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves, is mourning the death of his older sister, Toraya Reid, who was fatally shot in New Jersey on Saturday, authorities said.
New Jersey police said Toraya, 28, was shot multiple times and that her boyfriend, identified as Shaquille Green, was found running from the scene and has been arrested and charged with murder. Law enforcement released the information on Sunday; they did not immediately provide additional details about the circumstances or a possible motive.
Reid, 26, who grew up in New Jersey and has spent his entire NBA career with the Timberwolves after going undrafted in 2019, has not issued a public comment about his sister's death. He did post two photographs on Instagram that appear to show the siblings together as children.
Family members posted tributes online. Jakahya Reid, identified in social media posts as another of Toraya's sisters, wrote on Facebook, "I love you forever and always. We always send our condolences and say we would never imagine ourselves in that situation... and yet here I am. Facing the unimaginable."
In previous interviews, Naz Reid has spoken about the influence of his older sister. In a 2023 interview he said, "My older sister is super protective, she treats us like she's our parent," and described how she looked out for him as the only boy in the family.
Reid has emerged as a role player for the Timberwolves since joining the team. Minnesota took a chance on him after he went undrafted in 2019, and he was part of the roster that reached the NBA Finals last season before losing in five games to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Police in New Jersey said investigators are continuing their work on the case. No timetable was given for arraignment or further proceedings in connection with the murder charge, and authorities have not released additional information about the investigation.
The Timberwolves organization and the NBA did not issue immediate public statements tied to the shooting. The club has in the past rallied around players and families following personal tragedies, and the league often provides resources to teams and players in such situations.
This developing story will be updated as officials release more information and as the family or the team issue further statements.
