Nebraska’s Hail Mary ties halftime, but Michigan holds on for 30-27 win

Michigan defeated Nebraska 30-27 on Saturday in Lincoln, holding on after a dramatic sequence in the second quarter that featured a tying Hail Mary as time expired and a 75-yard burst by Justice Haynes earlier in the period. The Wolverines took a 17-10 lead on Haynes’ long run, and Nebraska answered with a quick strike from Dylan Raiola to Jacory Barney Jr. that helped set up a tense finish to the half. The Huskers then connected for a 26-yard touchdown between Raiola and Barney on their previous possession before Raiola lofted the 52-yard pass to Barney at the goal line as time expired, resulting in a game-tying score after Kyle Cunanan’s extra point. Barney outjumped Michigan’s Jaden Mangham for the catch and fell into the end zone to complete the sequence, which sent both teams to the locker room at 17-17.

Earlier in the half, Raiola and Barney had connected for a 26-yard touchdown on Nebraska’s previous possession, a drive that helped keep the game within reach. Emmett Johnson’s short run to the 48-yard line helped Nebraska move into striking distance before the half, setting up the late heave that capped the exchange.

In the second half, Michigan extended its lead before Nebraska mounted a comeback attempt. The Wolverines’ defense and a continued ground attack helped them hold off the Huskers, who fought back with a late rally but could not complete the comeback. The final score stood at 30-27, with Michigan securing the win to move to 3-1 on the season and Nebraska dropping to 3-1 as both teams entered or resumed their bye weeks.
