NFL commentator's raunchy on-air quip goes viral during Steelers' win over Patriots

An NFL live broadcast drew widespread attention Sunday after veteran commentator Ian Eagle delivered a raunchy on-air line during the Steelers' victory over the Patriots. In the second quarter, a pass interference was called after Steelers cornerback Brandin Echols grabbed Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte. As the highlight rolled on screen, Eagle said: 'He grabbed booty.'

Co-commentator JJ Watt paused between fits of laughter and added, 'I tried, I tried to keep it together.' The moment quickly circulated on social media, with fans praising the cheeky pun and the spontaneity of live sports commentary.

Boutte finished the game with two receptions for 28 yards as the Patriots fell to their second defeat of the season, following their Week 1 loss to the Raiders. Patriots QB Drake Maye went 28-for-37 for 268 yards and two touchdowns in the game. In the same week, Aaron Rodgers connected on 16 of 23 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns in another matchup, underscoring the varied results across the league. The Steelers — led by the play of Jaylen Warren, Calvin Austin and Jonnu Smith in supporting roles alongside DK Metcalf — moved to 2-1 on the season.

Fans took to X to praise Eagle. 'Reason number 1,350,224 why Ian Eagle is the best in the business,' wrote one admirer. Others echoed the sentiment, with posts joking about the humor and the timing of the joke.

Looking ahead, the Patriots will try to rebound at home next weekend, hosting the Carolina Panthers, while the Steelers' schedule continues to test their depth as they chase a deeper run this season.
