Nick Bosa suffers season-ending ACL tear in 49ers' win over Cardinals

San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa sustained a season-ending ACL injury during the team's win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, multiple outlets reported. Bosa attempted to chase Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray in the first quarter, but two Arizona offensive linemen shoved him away and drove him to the turf. He walked off the field, signaling a thumbs-down gesture toward the crowd as he left the field.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the injury is a clean tear of the ACL and that Bosa will undergo surgery to repair it, ending his 2025 season after just three games.

This marks the second time Bosa has torn an ACL in his NFL career; his first occurred in Week 2 of the 2020 season against the New York Jets. After Sunday's game, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that he did not believe Bosa had suffered an ACL tear. Those comments were later tempered by Schefter's report confirming the ACL injury. Bosa's absence represents a significant blow to a defense that has leaned on his rush ability to pressure quarterbacks. San Francisco will need to adjust its pass-rush plans and rotations as it moves forward without one of the league's premier defenders. The team has scheduled surgery to repair the ACL and will outline a recovery timeline in the coming weeks.
