Nicolas Raskin says he wants to stay at Rangers despite 'complicated' situation

Nicolas Raskin has told media he wants to remain at Rangers despite describing his club situation as "complicated" and being left out of the recent Old Firm match at Ibrox.

The 24-year-old Belgium international, who joined Rangers from Standard Liège in 2023, was omitted from the goalless league game before the international break by manager Russell Martin. Raskin then travelled with the national team and scored his first senior international goal in Belgium's 6-0 win over Kazakhstan in Brussels on Sunday.

Speaking to Dutch-language outlet Voetbalkrant, Raskin said he intends to return to Glasgow, train hard and try to regain playing time. "My situation at the club is complicated. I will return, work hard, and try to get playing time again," he was quoted as saying. He added that a move away was "out of the question" and that he wants to resolve the matter at Rangers.

There had been speculation about Raskin's future during the latter stages of the summer transfer window, but no deal materialised. Club officials and supporters have at times highlighted Raskin's role since his 2023 arrival, and the midfielder has been described by those close to the club as a fans' favourite.

Martin has said publicly that his relationship with Raskin is not broken. The manager left Raskin out of the Old Firm selection but indicated his decision was a sporting one and that discussions between player and club would follow when the squad reconvened.

Raskin, who played a prominent role for Rangers last season, framed the current spell as part of football's variability. "Football is simply a game of ups and downs. I absolutely love Rangers. I've had some great moments there and have a strong bond with the fans. I always try to give my all," he told Voetbalkrant.

Raskin's comments follow a period in which Rangers have navigated squad selection, European commitments and domestic competition. The player will return to Glasgow to meet with Martin and staff as the club prepares for its next fixtures after the international break. Rangers signed Raskin from Standard Liège in 2023, and he has since been involved both at club level and with the Belgium national team.

The situation is expected to be clarified in the coming days as Raskin resumes training with Rangers and holds talks with the coaching staff. Until then, his immediate contribution to the club will depend on the outcome of those discussions and the manager's selection decisions.
