No Bets on Jake Paul-Gervonta Davis Exhibition Fight, Florida Says
Commission designates the November bout as an exhibition due to size disparity, blocking wagering; venue shifted to Miami.

The Florida Athletic Commission on Tuesday confirmed that the November 14 boxing match between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis will be sanctioned as an exhibition, meaning bettors cannot place wagers. Florida's executive director Timothy Shipman said, "You can't do a fight like that as a pro fight. It'll be an exhibition fight." The decision frames the event as a showcase rather than a traditional professional bout.
The bout is scheduled for the Kaseya Center in Miami after a relocation from State Farm Arena in Atlanta, a move prompted by pushback from Georgia boxing officials over staging a pro bout between the two fighters. A central factor in the exhibition designation is the substantial weight disparity: Davis weighed 133 pounds in his last fight, while Paul weighed in at 199 pounds, a 66-pound gap that officials say makes a pro-caliber matchup impractical.
Davis has held the WBA lightweight title since 2019 and has knocked out 28 of his 31 opponents, building a record that has attracted interest in the promotional spectacle around the fight. The matchup pits a smaller, yet highly explosive challenger against a taller, power-punching champion in a clash that has drawn global attention regardless of its exhibition status.
Off the ring, the fighter known as "Tank" has faced multiple legal questions in recent years. In 2022, he was accused of domestic violence by the mother of his child; the allegations were not pursued in court. In July, he was arrested on a domestic battery charge in Miami Beach, but prosecutors dropped the case in August after the victim declined to prosecute. Reports cited jail records in connection with the case, though no charges remained active.
Paul, who has built a reputation for staging high-profile fights, has previously promoted major showdowns, including a bout that featured Mike Tyson. The November card has generated significant interest in boxing and combat sports communities, even as wagering remains off the table due to the exhibition classification.
In recent action, Davis retained the WBA lightweight title via a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr., a result that kept him among the sport's elite. Prior to that outcome, he had been viewed by many analysts as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in boxing. The November event is expected to command extensive attention from fans and media worldwide, even without formal betting markets.
