Oregon Walks Off Penn State in Double OT, 30-24

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Oregon’s walk-off interception sealed a 30-24 double-overtime victory over Penn State on Saturday night, extending the Ducks’ current stretch of regular-season success and delivering a rematch win from last year’s conference championship game.

In a raucous environment of more than 111,000 fans, Oregon survived a tense finish and then dominated the extra frames. Jamari Johnson ran for a touchdown in overtime, Dierre Hill Jr. caught a touchdown pass, and Atticus Sappington added a field goal for the Ducks (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten). Dillon Thieneman then sealed the outcome with an interception of Drew Allar in the second overtime period as Oregon improved to 12-0 in regular-season Big Ten play and to an FBS-leading 23rd straight regular-season win.

The game opened slowly, with the offenses trading possessions and the teams’ defenses controlling the line of scrimmage. Penn State’s offense, which had managed just 189 yards through most of regulation, finally found a spark late in the second quarter when Devonte Ross beat coverage for a 35-yard touchdown reception from Allar to trim the Ducks’ lead to 3-10. Penn State added a 49-yard field goal from Ryan Barker just before halftime to pull within a single score at 3-7.

Oregon grabbed a larger foothold in the third quarter. A fumble that had briefly looked like a turning point was overturned on review, and the Ducks answered with a sustained push that culminated in a touchdown as Dante Moore connected with Hill Jr. for an 8-yard score after a 10-play, 75-yard drive. Oregon took a 10-7 lead, and moments later Davison capped another long march with an 8-yard run on a fourth-and-1 to push the advantage to 14-7 with 12:25 left in regulation. The hostile crowd kept the pressure on, and the home team responded with a quick strike, though, as Allar found Ross for a 7-yard touchdown to pull Penn State within 14-13 and later tied the game with a late- fourth-quarter drive that ended with a 7-yard connection to Ross with 0:30 showing.

The game moved to overtime with the score tied at 17-17, and the drama continued into the extra period. In the first overtime, Kaytron Allen scored the opening touchdown for Penn State, and Oregon answered with a touchdown run by Jamari Johnson to force a second extra period. Penn State pushed for the winner, but Allar’s attempt on the next play after Oregon’s score was intercepted, setting the stage for the Ducks’ late heroics.

In the second overtime, Thieneman came up with the defining plays, sealing the win with an interception of Allar. Oregon then extended the lead with a field goal from Sappington and a late score that put the Ducks in front for good. Johnson added a final rushing score in the period, and Hill Jr. delivered a receptions score earlier in the extra frame, topping off a meticulously executed finish by the Ducks.

The win solidified Oregon’s standing as a relentless midseason force, reinforcing its status as one of college football’s most consistent programs in recent seasons. The Ducks are now 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten, while Penn State dropped to 4-2 after a fight-filled night in which the Nittany Lions had moments of strong defense but could not sustain the offense against Oregon’s disciplined, multi-faceted approach.

The rematch from last season’s conference championship game added another chapter to a growing chapter in Eugene’s football history. Oregon’s success keeps building on a regular-season streak that remains the longest active in the nation, a narrative that continues to shape perceptions of both programs as they move through a demanding schedule.

Images from the night captured the intensity of the environment and the players’ reactions as the Ducks secured the victory.

As the season progresses, Oregon’s ability to win in hostile environments and close out games in overtime will be a reference point for both the coaching staff and opponents. The Ducks will look to carry this momentum into the remaining Big Ten slate, while Penn State reassesses after a heartbreaker in a rivalry that has quickly become one of college football’s most anticipated rematches.
