Packers roll past Commanders 27-18 at Lambeau to start season 2-0

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers beat the Washington Commanders 27-18 on Thursday night at Lambeau Field, improving to 2-0 after a commanding performance from both sides of the ball in front of a sold-out crowd.

Quarterback Jordan Love completed 19 of 31 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns, and running back Josh Jacobs rushed for 84 yards on 23 carries and scored, extending his streak to 10 straight regular-season games with a touchdown. The Packers sustained long, methodical drives that repeatedly flipped field position and wore down the Washington defense.

Green Bay opened the night with a 96-yard drive that ended with Romeo Doubs hauling in a quick slant for a touchdown. Tucker Kraft, who finished as the game's leading receiver with 124 yards on six catches, broke a 57-yard reception on that drive to shift field position deep into Washington territory. The Packers added another long scoring drive in the first half that featured a 37-yard swing play by Malik Heath, whose toe-tap catch was initially ruled complete but later overturned after a replay review. Jacobs punched in a two-yard touchdown run on the next possession.

Washington got on the board when kicker Matt Gay converted a 51-yard field goal in the second quarter, but Gay missed from 58 yards before the half and later banged a kick off the right upright early in the second half.

The Commanders, who had looked sharp in Week 1, struggled to move the ball early as Green Bay’s defense pressured second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels and blanket-covered receivers. Washington was forced to punt on each of its first three possessions. By the time the fourth quarter began, the Packers led 17-3.

Daniels rallied his team with a 50-yard scoring drive to open the fourth quarter, and tight end Zach Ertz finished the series with a 20-yard catch-and-run touchdown to cut the deficit to 17-10. Green Bay answered with a 65-yard drive capped by Love finding Tucker Kraft for a touchdown, putting the Packers back ahead by two possessions.

Daniels engineered another touchdown drive late, connecting with Deebo Samuel for Washington’s final score. The Commanders converted a two-point attempt to make it a nine-point game, but time ran out on their comeback bid.

Josh Jacobs celebrates a touchdown

On the stat sheet, Love’s two touchdown passes added to an early-season résumé that included sharp ball placement and timely third-down conversions. Jacobs provided balance on the ground as Green Bay finished with 137 rushing yards as a team, compared with Washington’s 51. Daniels completed 24 of 41 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns but was held to 17 yards on seven carries.

Romeo Doubs scores against the Commanders

The victory followed a Week 1 home win over the Detroit Lions, giving Matt LaFleur’s team consecutive home triumphs to open the season. The Packers’ defense again played a decisive role, disrupting the Commanders’ early rhythm and forcing Washington into several punts and short-yardage situations.

Washington fell to 1-1 after a season-opening win against the New York Giants. The Commanders’ offense showed signs of late-game life but could not overcome missed field goals and a lack of consistent rushing production.

Green Bay will carry momentum into its next game with an unbeaten start, while Washington will seek to regroup and find more balanced offensive production in the coming weeks.
