Packers' undefeated talk draws LaFleur’s ire after shock loss to Browns

The Cleveland Browns stunned Green Bay with a fourth-quarter rally, handing the Packers their first loss of the season and snapping Green Bay's undefeated start.

Before the game, Packers left tackle Rasheed Walker had suggested Green Bay could go undefeated. On Monday, coach Matt LaFleur emphasized that talk about long-term goals is not helpful. "I’ve said it a million times to you guys — I don’t think I’ve obviously said it enough to our team — the goal is to go 1-0 every week," LaFleur said. "And it pisses me off when we start talking about things outside of the next game." He added that the focus should be on the present and on getting better each day.

LaFleur also warned that players should pump the brakes and stay focused on the next opponent. "The emphasis is on being honest about the tape and learning from it, and then moving on," he said. "We’re trying to win one game at a time." He noted that this approach is essential to avoid distractions and keep the team on track after the setback.

The Browns erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to claim the win, leaving Green Bay at 0-1 and underscoring the need for point-by-point improvement. The Packers will study the game tape and prepare for their next test, underscoring a familiar NFL reality: success is built week by week, not by boasting about the road ahead.

As Green Bay turns toward its next opponent, the emphasis remains on discipline, preparation and focusing on the next game rather than expectations for the remainder of the season.
