Patrick Bamford in talks to join Getafe after Leeds exit

Patrick Bamford is in talks to join Getafe after mutually terminating his Leeds United contract this summer. The 32-year-old striker is a free agent and could complete a move to the Madrid-based club within days, with talks progressing toward a conclusion within 24 hours. Getafe, sitting eighth in La Liga, would mark Bamford’s first move abroad since leaving Leeds.

Bamford has drawn interest from English clubs, particularly in the Championship, and he has considered a move to MLS, but the offer from Getafe appeals as a fresh start in Spain. During his Leeds tenure, Bamford made 205 appearances and scored 60 goals.

Getafe have been active in this summer’s market and are looking to bolster their attack after losing Christantus Uche to Crystal Palace last month, with the club having previously given Mason Greenwood the platform to relaunch his career. Bamford’s arrival would add experience up front as Getafe seek to reinforce their options in attack.

Bamford spent the summer focusing on fitness and is ready for a fresh start in Spain after a season spent working to overcome injuries. If the deal goes through, he would join a Getafe side pushing to maintain progress in La Liga and compete for European qualification in coming seasons.

Leeds United parted ways with Bamford in the summer after a tenure that saw him accumulate 205 appearances and 60 goals for the club, including a season in which he contributed in the Championship as Leeds secured promotion back to the Premier League. Bamford’s return to form in the wake of fitness work has kept him on the radar of several clubs, but Getafe’s proposal remains the most concrete option at this stage. The next 24 hours are expected to determine whether Bamford will embark on a new chapter in Spain.
