Peter Crouch appears as Farnham Town mascot after fantasy‑league forfeit

Former England striker Peter Crouch donned Farnham Town colours and led the non-league side out as a mascot on Saturday as a forfeit after finishing bottom of a fantasy football league.

The 44-year-old former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur forward walked onto the Memorial Ground in Surrey ahead of Farnham Town's Southern League Premier Division South fixture against promotion-chasers Sholing. The ground has a capacity of about 2,500.

Crouch was accompanied by his That Peter Crouch Podcast co-hosts Chris Stark and former Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell, who shared video clips from the appearance on social media. Sidwell posted footage showing Crouch accepting a mascot goody bag while supporters cheered.

Farnham Town play in the Southern League Premier Division South, and the fixture with Sholing was described as a meeting of promotion hopefuls. Organisers said the appearance was part of a pre-arranged forfeit relating to last season's fantasy league standings; Crouch finished bottom and agreed to the stunt.

Crouch retired from professional football in 2019 after a career that included spells at Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Stoke City and notable periods at Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as 42 caps for England. Since retiring he has remained a public figure through broadcasting and his podcast.

The lighthearted moment drew attention on social media and at the ground, where supporters reacted with amusement as the former striker, known for his height and trademark celebration, took part in the mascot procession rather than playing.

Farnham Town and Sholing did not immediately comment beyond acknowledging the event as part of their match-day activities. Sidwell's posts provided the main public record of the incident, showing Crouch smiling and engaging with fans before the match.

The appearance is the latest in a string of media and public engagements by former players who remain active in football-related entertainment and commentary following their professional careers. No disciplinary or regulatory issues were reported in connection with the mascot appearance.
