Phillies Fan Demands Home Run Ball From Child, Flips Off Crowd in Miami

A Philadelphia Phillies fan chased down and demanded a home-run ball from a father who had grabbed it for his young son during the Phillies’ game in Miami on Sept. 5, sparking a heated confrontation that was captured on video and circulated widely on social media.

Drew Feltwell ran to retrieve a ball hit by Phillies outfielder Harrison Bader, reached his seats and intended to give it to his son, Lincoln, when a woman nearby confronted him and insisted the ball belonged to her. Feltwell told NBC10 Philadelphia he picked the ball after watching its flight and finding it come to rest in a single spot. He said the woman claimed the ball had been taken from her seat, which Feltwell said was empty.

Video posted on X by Jomboy Media shows the woman pursuing Feltwell, yelling at him and at one point flipping off fans nearby after he surrendered the ball. The footage shows a tense exchange in which the woman at one point gets into the face of another fan wearing a Philadelphia Eagles jersey. The encounter included profanity that viewers described as graphic.

Feltwell said he "pretty much just wanted her to go away." He also brought his daughter to the game and said he and his children were shaken by the confrontation. Lincoln, who briefly received and then had to give up the ball, told reporters he "wasn’t very happy" about losing the souvenir.

After the game, Bader met with Lincoln and gave him a signed bat, the Phillies confirmed, in what the team described as an effort to make amends. Images from the game show the exchange between Feltwell and the woman and capture the emotional reaction of the family.

Father and son confronted by fan

The incident attracted attention online as fans debated stadium etiquette and the question of who has rightful possession of balls that land in the stands. Major League Baseball’s official guidance leaves ownership of balls to the fans who retrieve them, and disputes in crowded seating areas have occasionally led to confrontations in recent seasons.

Local television coverage captured Feltwell’s account and the team’s outreach to the family. The footage also highlighted how quickly souvenirs from on-field play can become flashpoints among fans. There were no immediate reports of police involvement or arrests related to the Miami incident.

The episode added to a string of highly visible fan disputes at sporting events in recent years and renewed discussion about fan conduct, stadium security and how teams respond when such incidents involve children. The Phillies’ decision to have Bader meet with Lincoln and present a signed bat was presented as a conciliatory gesture intended to ease the situation for the family.

The team and stadium officials did not immediately release additional public comment beyond confirmation of the meeting between player and child. Video of the confrontation remains available on social platforms, where users have continued to share and comment on the exchange and the woman’s gesture toward the surrounding crowd.
