Rahm's Miracle Chip Lifts Europe as Ryder Cup Action Heats Up at Bethpage Black
Rahm's eighth-hole chip from the bunker seals a birdie to spark Team Europe on day two of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

Jon Rahm produced a moment of magic on the second day of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, lifting Team Europe as play resumed Saturday. The turning point arrived on the par-3 eighth hole, where Tyrrell Hatton's tee shot landed wide of the green and on the edge of a bunker, leaving Rahm to conjure a play from below the ball. Rahm dug the ball out of the rough, and it landed just as the green opened and rolled into the hole for a spectacular birdie. He celebrated by walking out of the bunker and pointing toward the cup as the ball dropped. Rahm had won both of his matches on Friday, helping Europe secure five and a half points on the opening day.
That birdie helped blunt a potential momentum swing for the Americans. Team USA had tied the match earlier when Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele won holes five and seven, and Schauffele had a chance to respond on the eighth with a chip of his own. He nearly pulled one in, but missed, and Cantlay's wayward tee shot left Schauffele in the rough. Rahm's shot created a jolt for Europe, and the Europeans took the eighth hole to move to a 1-up edge in the match. Rahm and Hatton had also opened the day with a 2-up lead, setting the tone for the second day of play.

As play continued, Rahm's burst of momentum helped stem any surge by Cantlay and Schauffele. Through 11 holes on the day, Rahm and Hatton remained one up.

By Friday, Europe had built momentum by securing five and a half points, with Rahm contributing two wins and a broader European performance solidifying control of the session. The Ryder Cup schedule continues through the weekend as Europe looks to extend its early lead and push toward a repeat of its strong opening day.
