Rangers unveil year-long centennial program with themed nights, rotating exhibit and alumni events

The New York Rangers announced a year-long centennial campaign on Monday that will highlight the franchise’s 100-year history with eight special theme nights at Madison Square Garden, a rotating exhibit of artifacts and a slate of fan and community events featuring alumni appearances.

The team said the season-long program will touch every era of Rangers hockey, include unique fan experiences and community-driven programs, and feature longtime Rangers broadcaster Sam Rosen acting as a prominent ‘‘Master of Ceremonies’’ for on-ice segments during select theme nights. MSG owner James Dolan said the celebration is intended to honor ‘‘the great moments, players, and so much more that has brought us all together for a century of Rangers hockey.’’

Beginning in October, the Rangers will open a new exhibit in the Garden’s main concourse that will showcase historic artifacts and memorabilia. The contents will rotate every few weeks to display items from across the franchise’s history, the team said, and will serve as a central element of the centennial programming.

The theme-night series launches Oct. 20 with ‘‘Birth of the Franchise,’’ covering 1926-1942 and marking the team’s first three Stanley Cup championships in 1928, 1933 and 1940. Subsequent dates include Nov. 8 for a ‘‘Milestones and Moments’’ night highlighting major and meaningful events in franchise history, Nov. 16 for ‘‘The Original Six Era’’ (1942-1967), and Dec. 13 for ‘‘The New Garden’’ era (1967-1991).

The calendar continues with Jan. 8 designated ‘‘Fan Favorites,’’ when several iconic Blueshirts will return to the Garden, and Jan. 26 focusing on the years 1991-2004 with emphasis on the 1994 championship and appearances from figures such as Mark Messier and Wayne Gretzky. Feb. 5 will honor the Rangers’ goaltending history, and March 5 will mark the ‘‘Modern Era’’ covering 2004 to the present, with the organization indicating Henrik Lundqvist is expected to figure prominently in goaltender commemorations.

In addition to on-ice celebrations, the Rangers plan an ‘‘elevated’’ Casino Night open to fans that will provide opportunities to celebrate with present and past players. The organization also said it will stage multiple alumni appearances across the centennial season and provide expanded fan programming tied to the themed nights.

Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury said the centennial will be a ‘‘once-in-a-lifetime season’’ for players, staff and fans, noting that ‘‘wearing the Rangers uniform is an honor and privilege unlike any other in the National Hockey League, and that is because of the legacy that has been created here over 100 years.’’

The team did not release a full roster of alumni scheduled to attend each night, saying some names will be revealed closer to event dates. The organization emphasized rotating exhibits and regular updates to the concourse display to ensure a broad representation of players, coaches, moments and artifacts across generations.

The centennial observance will give fans multiple opportunities to engage with the franchise’s history at Madison Square Garden throughout the season, with the team promising programming that spans from its founding decades through modern milestones. The Rangers’ announcements map a schedule intended to appeal to supporters of all ages while commemorating the franchise’s milestone year.

Ticketing details, special-pack offers and precise alumni guest lists are expected to be released in the coming weeks as the team finalizes event specifics for each themed night.
