Rasmus Hojlund scores 14 minutes into Napoli debut in 3-1 win over Fiorentina
On-loan Manchester United forward nets early on debut as Serie A side secure victory; deal carries a £38m obligation to buy

Rasmus Hojlund marked his first appearance for Napoli with a goal 14 minutes into Saturday night's Serie A fixture, helping the reigning Italian champions to a 3-1 victory over Fiorentina.
The 22-year-old Dane, who joined Napoli on loan from Manchester United on transfer deadline day, converted in the 14th minute after Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the sixth. The loan agreement includes a £38 million obligation to buy at the end of the season.
Hojlund's finish came after he broke the defensive line, shrugged off a marker and slid the ball into the net off the inside of the post. He wheeled away in celebration alongside his new teammates as Napoli built a two-goal cushion inside the first quarter of the match. Fiorentina reduced the deficit later in the game, but Napoli added a third to secure the three points.
The striker arrived at Napoli following a difficult spell at Old Trafford. United signed Hojlund for £72 million in 2023, and he scored 26 goals in 95 appearances for the club across all competitions. Reports from the summer transfer window said he had fallen out of favour with United boss Ruben Amorim and became surplus to requirements, prompting the loan move.
Napoli manager Antonio Conte fielded Hojlund as part of a side that added an experienced presence up front. De Bruyne, who joined Napoli on a free transfer this summer after leaving Manchester City, took the early penalty and set the platform for Hojlund's debut goal.
United's heavy summer investment in attack was also underlined by the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo; the three forwards were reported to have cost a combined total of about £207 million. Hojlund's move to Serie A comes with an obligation-to-buy clause that will make the transfer permanent should contractual conditions be met.
Hojlund is not the only recent United departure to have prospered after leaving Old Trafford. Scott McTominay moved to Napoli in August 2024 for a reported £25 million and played a central role in Conte's side that claimed the domestic title. Antony, who left United for Real Betis after a loan spell, provided 14 goal contributions in 26 appearances during his loan and subsequently completed a permanent transfer.

Napoli's win served as a timely boost early in the Serie A campaign and provided Hojlund with an immediate positive response after leaving Manchester United. The obligation-to-buy clause means the coming months will determine whether his stay in Naples becomes a permanent transfer.
