Ray Parlour downs pint after crowd mocks him at Ally Pally darts

Ray Parlour, the former Arsenal midfielder known as the Romford Pele, drew attention at Alexandra Palace on Friday when he downed a full pint in 12 seconds after being taunted by supporters at the World Darts Championship.

Parlour was in the London venue to watch the final first-round action when cameras caught him grinning as he acknowledged the crowd. The 52-year-old, who made more than 450 appearances for Arsenal, quickly became the focus of chants from boisterous fans hoping to draw a reaction.

After initially choosing to sip one of his cups, Parlour stood and, in response to taunts that he was boring, consumed a full pint in just 12 seconds, prompting a roar from the Ally Pally crowd.

Parlour's moment added to a line of sports stars attending the event, including former Premier League players Peter Crouch and Steve Sidwell, who were seen at Ally Pally earlier in the week, with Crouch reportedly joining in with a pint in front of the crowd. Leah Williamson, the Lionesses captain, and UFC fighter Paddy Pimblett have also been spotted soaking up the atmosphere in recent days.

It has been estimated that up to 750,000 pints will be consumed across the three-week tournament at Ally Pally.

With the World Darts Championship continuing through the festive period, Ally Pally's arena has become a focal point for fans seeking a blend of sport and seasonal spectacle.
