A Boston Red Sox fan was caught on a hot mic Friday night at Fenway Park berating second baseman David Hamilton during the Yankees-Red Sox game, the Apple TV+ broadcast showed. The outburst came in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Yankees led 4-0 and Hamilton stepped to the plate with one out.

Audio from the broadcast captured the fan, seated atop the Green Monster, yelling, "This guy literally should not even be in the league. How do we have nobody better?" Apple TV+ play-by-play commentator Wayne Randazzo laughed after the exchange and quipped on-air, "Not talking about me, is he?"

Hamilton, 27, went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in the game; the strikeout came during the at-bat when the fan was heard. The Texas native has spent parts of the season between Boston and Triple-A Worcester, appearing in 85 major league games and compiling a .200 batting average and a .568 on-base plus slugging percentage. He has four home runs and 16 RBIs this season.

It was Hamilton's third season in the majors and all have come with the Red Sox. Boston managed just two hits in the game, providing multiple targets for a frustrated fan base as the American League East rivals played the final regular-season series of the year.

The Yankees won 4-1, leaving the teams two games remaining in the season series. The victory put New York at 82-65 and one game ahead of Boston in the race for the top spot in the American League wild-card standings. Earlier in the season, the Red Sox had an eight-game edge in head-to-head results over the Yankees, sweeping a three-game series in June en route to winning eight straight matchups.

The incident drew attention on social media and was noted during the national broadcast; the on-field action remained the focus, with the Yankees holding a multi-run lead by the late innings. No team or league officials reported any additional response to the spectator's comments, and the game proceeded without further audio incidents captured on the national telecast.
