Rodgers Sets NFL Defensive Record as Vikings Rout Bengals

The Minnesota Vikings routed the Cincinnati Bengals 48-10 on Sunday, with cornerback Isaiah Rodgers delivering a historically dominant performance in the first half. Rodgers became the first player in NFL history to record a pick-six, a fumble returned for a touchdown and two forced fumbles in a single game, all before halftime as Minnesota built a 34-3 lead at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Rodgers opened the sequence with an 87-yard interception return after a ball tipped by safety Harrison Smith, a play that extended the Vikings' early advantage. In the second quarter, he chased down Bengals tight end Noah Fant and forced a fumble, returning it 66 yards for another defensive touchdown. Before the half ended, Rodgers added a third takeaway by forcing a fumble on Ja’Marr Chase and recovering it. He also helped prevent a scoring threat by breaking up a pass to Tee Higgins in one-on-one coverage.

The Vikings took a 34-3 lead into halftime and continued to pull away after the break. Beginning in place of J.J. McCarthy, who was sidelined, quarterback Carson Wentz went 14-of-20 for 173 yards with two touchdowns. Running back Jordan Mason added 116 yards on 16 carries and found the end zone twice, while tight ends T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver each caught a touchdown pass from Wentz.

On Cincinnati's side, Jake Browning started at quarterback as Joe Burrow remained sidelined with a turf toe issue, and the Bengals' offense was unable to keep pace with Minnesota's defense. The Vikings' defense repeatedly forced turnovers and short fields, helping the home team extend its margin well beyond the early lead.

Rodgers' performance stands as one of the most historic single-game defensive showings in the NFL in recent memory, underscoring Minnesota's improved depth on that side of the ball and providing a blueprint for how the Vikings plan to win games this season. The victory improved Minnesota to 2-1 on the year and left Cincinnati seeking answers as it adjusts to an unsettled quarterback situation while Burrow recovers.
