Ruben Amorim welcomes Andre Onana's exit as Manchester United reshapes squad ahead of derby
Onana set for loan to Trabzonspor after a difficult spell at United; club sign Senne Lammens as competition for Altay Bayindir ahead of Manchester derby

Ruben Amorim has reportedly welcomed Andre Onana's imminent departure from Manchester United, saying the goalkeeper's loan move to Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor will help clear "negativity in the dressing room" as he attempts to rebuild a squad that underachieved last season.
Onana, 29, is set to travel to Turkey this week to complete the temporary switch after two difficult years at Old Trafford following his move from Inter Milan. United finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur last season, prompting a summer of significant change that has already included the departures of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho.
Reports said Onana's United career was undermined by a string of high-profile errors under both Erik ten Hag and Amorim, culminating in a poor performance in a League Cup defeat at Grimsby Town last month that is understood to have been a decisive factor in the club's decision to move him on. The goalkeeper also missed parts of pre-season with a reported hamstring injury and fell behind Turkish international Altay Bayindir in the pecking order.
Tensions between Onana and Amorim were reported to have risen during the summer when the player asked for a new contract, which was not forthcoming. Citing another newspaper, The Sun, one source said: "It felt like Andre was just there to show up but wasn't there or showing any team mentality." United have not publicly confirmed the details of the talks.
As part of the reshuffle, United completed the signing of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on Deadline Day. The 23-year-old has been brought in as additional competition for Bayindir and could be considered for selection for Sunday's Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium, depending on Amorim's assessment.
United officials made a late bid to sign Emi Martinez from Aston Villa before completing the Lammens deal, sources said. Bayindir, promoted to No. 1 earlier this season, has come under scrutiny after errors in matches against Arsenal and Burnley, and the arrival of Lammens provides Amorim with another option in goal.
Manchester City have also reshaped their goalkeeping ranks this month, signing Gianluigi Donnarumma for a reported £26 million. City will be without several players for the derby, with manager Pep Guardiola confirming absences including Omar Marmoush, Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden. Amorim has yet to confirm whether Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount, who both left the 3-2 win over Burnley with knocks, will be available for the trip to the Etihad.
Amorim is scheduled to hold his pre-match press conference on Friday, when he is expected to outline his squad selection and provide updates on player fitness. Onana's loan is among a number of moves that reflect the club's wider summer overhaul as United seek to stem a period of poor results and restore stability on and off the pitch.
