Sabrina Ionescu signs multiyear deal with travel brand Away

Sabrina Ionescu has signed a multiyear partnership with travel brand Away, the company announced Monday, marking the first known agreement between a luggage brand and a WNBA player.

Earlier this season Ionescu surprised New York Liberty teammates and support staff with seafoam Away crossbody bags and Liberty-branded suitcases customized with players' jersey numbers, gifts that teammates greeted with smiles and thanks. As part of the official partnership, Ionescu and Away will roll out a limited-edition collection next year, work together on community impact initiatives through the guard's SI20 Foundation, and continue to outfit her teammates with travel gear during the season.

"It's exciting," Ionescu said, reflecting on the deal and her frequent travel schedule. "Just obviously a great brand to be partnered with and understanding how I use it in my daily life. I'm traveling a lot. I'm always on the road, going from place to place." Teammates reacted positively to the early-season gifts; Natasha Cloud said, "Thank you, Sab," and Nyara Sabally held up one of the smaller bags and said, "These are cute."

Away CEO Jessica Schinazi said in a statement that the company was drawn to Ionescu's leadership and visibility. "At Away, we're inspired by those who push boundaries and redefine expectations in their fields. Sabrina is not only a generational talent but embodies the bold spirit, leadership and forward momentum that Away champions," Schinazi said. "Travel and sport are deeply connected, and partnering with Sabrina is a natural continuation of our commitment to empowering athletes and the journey they take both on and off the court."

Away is already a sponsor of the Liberty, and the Ionescu deal formalizes a closer commercial relationship between the player and the brand. The limited-edition line is slated for next year and will be accompanied by community-focused programs coordinated with the SI20 Foundation, which Ionescu founded to support youth development and access to sports.

Ionescu's off-court schedule includes significant travel. During the recent offseason she spent time in Miami for Unrivaled events and completed an Asia tour as part of her work as a Nike signature athlete. She also cited personal travel: she and her husband, Hroniss Grasu, regularly vacation in Hawaii, a favored offseason destination where they spent their honeymoon.

The partnership comes amid growing commercial interest in the WNBA and its stars, as companies seek to connect with athletes who command both sporting influence and broader cultural reach. For Ionescu, whose on-court profile has expanded since joining the Liberty, the Away deal adds a travel lifestyle element to a portfolio that already includes a signature shoe arrangement with Nike.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed by either party. Away and Ionescu said they plan to publicly detail the limited-edition collection and the scope of the community initiatives in the months ahead.
