Scheffler dismisses Tiger Woods comparisons in Bethpage interview

Scottie Scheffler dismissed comparisons to Tiger Woods during a Tuesday news conference in Bethpage, saying he does not want to be measured against Woods or categorized by his legacy. The world No. 1 since May 2023 noted that his Ryder Cup success has come with different partners, and he pointed to Rome in 2023, where a hot start for Team USA gave way to a disappointing finish before his ascent continued.

While acknowledging the aura surrounding Woods, Scheffler said the idea of living up to that standard is not his goal. "There was some times there when he was doing nothing but winning golf tournaments and just beating the absolute crap out of people time and time again," he said. The remark underscored Scheffler's view that comparing himself to Woods does not reflect his approach or future plans for the Ryder Cup.

Looking ahead, Scheffler said he intends to focus on partnerships that maximize the team's chances rather than chasing a Woods-like aura. He emphasized comfort with his current partners and a willingness to adapt to the captain's plans for the Ryder Cup.

Team leadership and pairing decisions will be determined by the U.S. captain, and Scheffler's comments signal a focus on his own game and team chemistry rather than the Woods comparison.

With the next major window approaching, Scheffler will continue to compete on the PGA Tour while remaining a central figure for Team USA.
