Scholes labels Rashford a disgrace for quitting Manchester United

Paul Scholes has labeled Marcus Rashford a 'disgrace' for quitting Manchester United, saying he struggles to feel happy for the forward despite Rashford's early form with Barcelona. Scholes made the comments during his appearance on a football podcast, emphasizing that while Rashford is undoubtedly talented and capable of influencing big games, the manner of his United exit left a sour impression. "There's no doubt the talent that kid has got, it's ridiculous, he's shown up in a big game, and that second goal was brilliant," Scholes said. "I really struggled to feel happy for him, to feel pleased for him. Mainly because his attitude, his attitude at United. The time he was leaving, I thought it was just disgrace at United, not trying, basically. Look, if you fell out with a manager, then OK, but remember, you've got team-mates you're playing with. You've got a massive 80,000 there, whatever it is, every single week that you have to put a bit of effort in. The amount of times I saw him at United walking because he wants to leave, I thought his whole demeanour was a disgrace. I think he actually quit on Manchester United. And once you quit once, you'll quit again."</p>

Rashford is currently on a season-long loan at Barcelona after falling out with United head coach Ruben Amorim last term and then becoming part of United's so-called 'bomb squad'. Rashford's last game for United came on December 12, 2024, in a 2-1 Europa League win over Viktoria Plzen, before he spent the second part of the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Aston Villa. The move to Barcelona marks a new chapter for the 27-year-old, who has been eager to make his mark abroad while United pursue change under their current setup.</p>

At Barcelona, Rashford opened his goalscoring account with a brace in a 2-1 win over Newcastle in the Champions League, with his second strike described as a potential goal of the season contender. The 27-year-old has begun to find rhythm in Spain, a development Rashford will look to build on as he continues his spell with Barca. Barcelona travel to Real Oviedo in La Liga on Thursday night, and Rashford will be keen to keep his recent momentum going on the road.</p>

Rashford's early form for Barcelona has drawn attention from Premier League circles and United supporters alike, though Scholes' comments linger as a reminder of the complexity of a high-profile departure. While Rashford has delivered moments of quality in Spain, the broader assessment of his time at United remains a topic of debate among former players and pundits alike. As Rashford chases continuing minutes with Barcelona, both the player and his former club will be watching closely to see whether his stint in La Liga can translate into sustained consistency on the European stage.
