Sean McVay Tore Plantar Fascia in Rams’ Week 2 Win, MRI Shows
Rams coach confirmed the injury on his show, saying he will remain on the sideline as Los Angeles readies for a road test against the Eagles

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay said Monday that an MRI confirmed he tore the plantar fascia in his foot during the team’s Week 2 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 14.
"Foot’s good," McVay told viewers on his "Coach McVay Show." "I did tear my plantar fascia, so yeah. Well, that’s a good thing, because I guess it allows you to heal a little faster. But I was being dramatic, limping around towards the end of the game, but the MRI confirmed I did that." He added with a smile, "Good news is I’m not playing. I’m just on the sidelines watching, so if I have a little cool limp to add some swag, then you’ll know why."
McVay, 39, did not point to a specific moment when the injury occurred but was seen hobbling on the sideline late in the Rams’ 33-19 win over Tennessee. The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that connects the heel to the front of the foot and can cause pain and limited mobility when torn.
The victory improved the Rams to 2-0. McVay, who led the Rams to a championship in 2022, acknowledged his characteristic sideline activity and energetic coaching style, which often finds him sprinting up and down the field, confronting officials and celebrating in the end zone. He did not say whether he would need to wear a walking boot as he recovers.
Los Angeles faces its next challenge Sunday when it visits the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Rams’ preparation will proceed with McVay on the sideline observing and directing the team while managing his recovery.

McVay’s announcement follows the team’s Week 1 and Week 2 performances, and comes as questions about personnel and game planning shift toward their upcoming matchup in Philadelphia. The coach’s comment that he will remain on the sideline indicates the team does not expect an immediate change in leadership for game day duties.
The Rams did not release a timetable for McVay’s recovery. The club will monitor his condition and provide updates as it prepares for the road game against the Eagles.
