Olympics sprint star Sha'Carri Richardson has been tapped for a high-profile Nike campaign for Kim Kardashian's SKIMS line, weeks after a domestic-violence arrest that drew scrutiny of her private life.
Richardson fronts the NikeSKIMS campaign alongside Kardashian and a roster of other high-profile athletes, including Serena Williams, golf world No. 1 Nelly Korda, gymnast Jordan Chiles and snowboarder Chloe Kim, Nike said in promotional material released this week. The company described the collaboration as part of its ongoing marketing push with SKIMS, highlighting a lineup that blends sport and fashion through the NikeSKIMS range. Richardson herself added that wearing NikeSKIMS helps her feel confident and unrestricted as she trains and competes at the sport’s highest levels.
The development comes amid the July incident at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in which Richardson was detained after an altercation with her boyfriend, fellow Olympian Christian Coleman. Security footage circulated publicly, showing Richardson shoving Coleman against a support column and appearing to throw an item, with the airport arrest resulting in a fourth-degree domestic-violence charge. She was held in custody for more than 18 hours before being released.
Nike had continued to feature Richardson prominently on its site in the wake of the arrest, and the company has not publicly altered its sponsorship or partnership with her. Richardson publicly addressed the incident on social media, expressing remorse and describing a period of self-reflection and accountability as she sought help to address the situation and to be a better person for her family and supporters.
In a separate message to Coleman, Richardson offered an apology, saying she was sorry for what happened and acknowledging the impact of her past trauma and pain. She emphasized her commitment to personal growth and to learning from the episode, noting that she aims to be better not only for herself but also for loved ones and fans.
The new campaign with Kardashian, Williams and other top athletes underscores Nike's continued strategy of layering celebrity influence with high-profile product launches. By featuring Richardson in a widely distributed, high-visibility promotion, Nike aligns with both the performance-success narrative and a broader creative collaboration spanning sport and pop culture, even as questions about the timing and messaging around such partnerships continue to be debated within the sports world.
