Shaun Alexander reveals wife Valerie is pregnant with 14th child
Former NFL MVP discloses pregnancy on TV while discussing homeschooling; no gender or due date announced.

Former NFL MVP Shaun Alexander revealed on Wednesday that his wife Valerie is pregnant with their 14th child. The former Seattle Seahawks running back made the announcement during a discussion about homeschooling their large brood with FanDuel host Kay Adams, telling Adams he was the first person on television to hear the news.
Alexander, 48, did not specify the baby’s gender or a due date. He and Valerie — whose family previously totaled 13 children, including 10 daughters and three sons — have kept many details private, but Alexander said the pregnancy news was “No 14” and that the couple’s children are a central focus of his life. The elder child in the family, Joseph, is currently playing high school football in Virginia, illustrating how the couple’s family has continued to grow alongside Alexander’s post-NFL life.
Alexander’s NFL career spanned nine seasons, all with the Seahawks, before he retired in 2008. He is best remembered for his 2005 MVP season, a run that helped define Seattle’s offense at the time. Across his career, he totaled 100 rushing touchdowns, a milestone that places him among a small cadre of backs to reach that mark. Seven of the 10 rushing TD leaders who reached the century mark are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a benchmark Alexander has long been associated with in discussions about his playing legacy. Phillip Rivers, another veteran with a lengthy résumé, is eligible for Canton next year, and the contrast in family size has become a light point in conversations about Hall of Fame considerations.
During the same exchange, Adams referenced Rivers’s large family, noting his ten children, while Alexander joked about the pace at which his own brood has grown. “They slacking... I want my kids to see the Hall of Fame, am I asking too much?” Alexander quipped, underscoring the balance he maintains between family life and the public spotlight.
The pregnancy announcement comes at a time when Alexander has frequently spoken about homeschooling and family priorities. While he has not publicly mapped out future plans for his children’s education beyond the ongoing homeschooling discussions, the moment marks another milestone for a family that has remained out front in public interest due to its size and Alexander’s high-profile NFL career. The couple’s growing household adds to a narrative that intertwines sports, family life, and the modern realities of parenting while navigating life after professional football.
