Sirens sign No. 1 pick Kristýna Kaltounková to three-year deal
Colgate standout and 2025 PWHL top pick joins New York through the 2027-28 season as club leans on youth

The New York Sirens signed Kristýna Kaltounková to a three-year contract on Monday, securing the 2025 PWHL first overall draft pick through the 2027-28 season.
Kaltounková, a forward who spent five seasons at Colgate, was taken by the Sirens with the top pick in June and is expected to bolster a Sirens offense built around young star Sarah Fillier. At Colgate, Kaltounková set the program record for goals with 111 and finished second in assists (122) and points (233) in school history.
Sirens general manager Pascal Daoust praised Kaltounková's all-around game in the team statement announcing the signing. "Speed, physicality, compete, passion — Kalty brings it all. Fearless enough to block any shot on the ice, but it takes real courage to try and block hers — it’s a true weapon," Daoust said. "We’re proud to welcome our 2025 first overall pick to the Sirens family on a three-year commitment. An elite player and outstanding teammate whose talent and drive will lift our standard of excellence and excite our fans."
Kaltounková, from Vlašim, Czechia, said she was "incredibly proud" to sign and cited New York's allure in her statement. "Alicia Keys said it best, New York is where dreams are made of — I can’t wait to live mine out as a member of the Sirens," she said.
The signing continues a youth-focused roster strategy for New York. The Sirens used two first-round selections in the draft as they aim to build around Fillier, who finished her rookie PWHL season with the league's second-most points and fourth-most goals. The club missed the playoffs for a second consecutive season in 2024-25 after winning 12 games.
Earlier this year, the Sirens left veteran forwards Alex Carpenter and Jessie Eldridge unprotected during the exclusive signing window and expansion draft, moves that allowed the new Seattle franchise to acquire both players. The front office has since emphasized acquiring and developing younger talent to reshape the roster.
Kaltounková's three-year deal keeps the Czech forward in the Tri-State area through the 2027-28 PWHL season and gives the Sirens a proven scorer with experience at the collegiate and international levels. The club will integrate her into training camp and preseason activities as it prepares for the next PWHL campaign.
Coaches and management framed the signing as part of a longer-term rebuild aimed at restoring the Sirens to playoff contention, citing Kaltounková's scoring pedigree, physical play and competitive drive as attributes that align with the team's direction. The Sirens did not disclose financial terms of the contract.
