Matthew Stafford took a shot to the groin in the third quarter of the Los Angeles Rams' 33-26 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, an injury that briefly sidelined him before he returned to finish the game.
After the game, the quarterback's wife, Kelly Stafford, discussed the moment on her podcast, The Morning After, recounting what Matthew told her. She relayed his remark — "Yeah, I got my nuts crushed" — and then offered a lighthearted take on the situation, joking that it might be God’s way of encouraging him to take care of a vasectomy. "That’s God’s way of taking care of your vasectomy since you haven’t done it in the last two years," she said, adding that, as women, they don’t fully know what it feels like when that happens.
Stafford, in his fifth season with the Rams, has 739 passing yards, five touchdown passes and two interceptions through three games this season, and Los Angeles sits at 2-1.
The veteran quarterback spent the first 12 years of his NFL career with the Detroit Lions before being traded to the Rams ahead of the 2021 season for Jared Goff and draft picks. That trade helped Los Angeles win a Super Bowl title in the 2021 season, marking a high point in Stafford’s career. With the Rams at 2-1 early in the season, Stafford remains a central figure as the team navigates the early schedule and adjusts to its offensive schemes.
