Stafford marriage rings: Matthew and Kelly Stafford discuss not always wearing wedding bands
NFL quarterback Matthew Stafford and wife Kelly say wedding rings aren’t always worn as they open up about marriage and family life with four daughters

Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly have acknowledged that they do not always wear their wedding rings, a personal admission that comes as the Los Angeles Rams quarterback and his wife mark a milestone in their marriage. The couple celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary this year, after meeting in 2009 at the University of Georgia, and they share four daughters.
Kelly spoke about the topic on her Morning After podcast, noting a trend among male athletes to wear rubber rings during games and playfully asking Stafford why he doesn’t wear one. The exchange underscored the couple’s willingness to discuss intimate aspects of their life in a frank, public forum.
Kelly said she sometimes doesn’t wear her ring as well, pointing to the realities of parenting four young daughters. “Sometimes my ring stays upstairs,” she explained, adding that with kids, there are many things to keep track of. Stafford reportedly has only lost his ring once; it was misplaced in Kelly’s purse and later found in a jewelry bag.
The couple has also been open about the strains that can accompany marriage. Kelly described marriage as hard and said that adjusting to life with a partner and children requires a shift in priorities. The discussion aligns with the couple’s long history together since college, including Stafford proposing to Kelly in 2014, their 2015 wedding in Atlanta, and their growing family.
Their timeline continued with the public recognition of Kelly’s pregnancy about a year after the wedding, followed by the arrival of twins Sawyer and Chandler in April 2017. The family welcomed Hunter Hope in August 2018, and Tyler arrived in June 2020, adding to a tightly knit family unit that has remained a central part of Stafford’s life both on and off the field.
