Suspect Charged With Murder in Shooting Death of NBA Player Naz Reid’s Sister
Ocean County authorities say Shaquille Green was arrested after officers found Toraya Reid shot at a Jackson, New Jersey, apartment complex

Authorities in New Jersey have charged a man with murder in the shooting death of Toraya Reid, the sister of Minnesota Timberwolves forward Naz Reid.
Shaquille Green, 29, was arrested Saturday after officers discovered Toraya Reid, 28, wounded and unresponsive at the Paragon apartment complex in Jackson, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said. Green was taken into custody shortly after he was seen running along a road on the apartment property, Billhimer said. He has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Authorities said Green and Toraya Reid were believed to have been dating. Police released few additional details about a possible motive or the events that led to the shooting. Prosecutors said the investigation remains active and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
Naz Reid, who went undrafted out of LSU in 2019 and has spent his NBA career with the Timberwolves, has not issued a public comment about his sister’s death. He posted two photographs on Instagram that appear to show the siblings together as children. In a 2023 interview, Reid said his older sister was "super protective" and had been a strong influence in his life.
Jakahya Reid, another of the family’s siblings, posted on Facebook about Toraya’s death, writing in part, "I love you forever and always. We always send our condolences and say we would never imagine ourselves in that situation... and yet here I am. Facing the unimaginable. I just talked to you last night... not even knowing what was waiting on you the very next morning. I'll never get over this, I'll never forgive God for taking you away from me. I don't know what kind of sick plan that man above has but I know losing you couldn't have been a part of it. I'm disgusted. I'm hurt. But most of all, I'm angry. I will never be ok."
Reid, 26, established himself as a valuable bench player with the Timberwolves and in June 2023 signed a three-year, $42 million contract after becoming known as an efficient shooter and physical center. The team is scheduled to begin preparations for the 2025-26 season on Oct. 4, with its first preseason game to follow.
Ocean County officials did not immediately release information on whether Green has entered a plea or on any scheduled court appearances. The case is being handled by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and police urged anyone with information to contact investigators as they continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
No further comment was immediately available from the Timberwolves organization. The investigation remains ongoing.
