Travis Kelce Slams Helmet During Chiefs' 20-17 Loss to Eagles

Travis Kelce slammed his helmet and shouted on the Kansas City Chiefs sideline during a 20-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, a visceral moment captured in a viral social media clip that underlined a frustrating day for the veteran tight end.

The outburst came just before halftime as Kansas City led 10-7. A clip posted on X showed Kelce striking his helmet and appearing to yell, "I'm sick of this s--t!" It was not clear from the video what prompted the reaction.

Kelce's frustration was evident later in the game after a costly fourth-quarter play. A pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes bounced off Kelce's hands and was intercepted by Eagles safety Andrew Mukuba. On the following possession, Philadelphia converted the turnover into a touchdown to take a 20-10 lead that proved decisive.

Mahomes said after the game that he accepted responsibility for the turnover. "I threw the ball a tad too early," Mahomes said. "We expected them to play that zero with the hole player, the safety. I just threw it a tad too early. Just trying to put it on his body low before that hole player got there. I think if I can put it more on his body, and not so far out in front of him, then he can catch it, take the hit, and get in the end zone."

Kelce, 35, was seen pacing on the sideline after the interception and appeared visibly upset with himself. The loss comes in a Super Bowl rematch months after Philadelphia routed Kansas City, 40-22, in the championship game that ended the Chiefs' bid for a historic three-peat on Feb. 9.

Kelce spent much of the offseason training in Florida and said in a pregame interview with Fox Sports that he had "more to prove" while reflecting on the Super Bowl defeat. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Kelce looked in strong condition during training camp and appeared younger than his age.

Kelce posted career-low totals in 2024 with 823 receiving yards and had 97 receptions, according to team figures, and he acknowledged earlier in the offseason that retirement had crossed his mind. He will turn 36 in October.

The game at Arrowhead Stadium also attracted attention off the field when Kelce's fiancée, Taylor Swift, attended while keeping a low profile; she was not shown on the Fox broadcast.

Kansas City dropped to 0-2 with the loss. The Chiefs will travel to MetLife Stadium next Sunday to face the New York Giants, who are also 0-2.

The game added to early-season questions about the Chiefs' offense and Kelce's role after an offseason of adjustments. Coaches and players emphasized preparation and corrections in their postgame comments, and the team will have a week to address the issues before its next matchup.
