Two Marquette University men’s lacrosse players were killed Friday night in a two-vehicle crash near the school’s main campus in Milwaukee, university and police officials said.

The victims were identified as Noah Snyder, 20, and Scott Michaud, 19. Snyder, an attackman from Irving, New York, was a sophomore in the College of Business Administration. Michaud, a goalie from Springboro, Ohio, was a sophomore majoring in biomedical sciences. Both were named to the Big East Conference’s All-Academic Team during their first year at Marquette for maintaining at least a 3.0 grade-point average.

Milwaukee police said a 41-year-old driver collided with another vehicle that contained six occupants on Friday evening. All six occupants in the second vehicle were members of the lacrosse team, according to Marquette officials. Snyder and Michaud were pronounced dead at the scene. The other four occupants were treated at the scene or taken to nearby hospitals for further care.

Police said the 41-year-old driver was not immediately identified and that an investigation is ongoing. Any criminal charges related to the crash are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

In a social media statement, Marquette President Kimo Ah Yun asked the community to keep the players’ families and the university in their prayers, saying, “Noah and Scott’s lives were taken too soon and we share in the heartbreak of their teammates, coaches and those who knew them personally.” Marquette Athletics also expressed deep sorrow and offered support to students and staff affected by the deaths.

The university did not release additional information about the condition of the surviving teammates or the circumstances that led to the collision. Authorities have asked anyone with information about the crash to contact Milwaukee police as the probe continues.

The deaths come as a shock to the Marquette lacrosse program, which noted the players’ on- and off-field contributions. Both sophomores had been recognized for academic achievement and had been part of the team’s roster in recent seasons. University officials and athletic department representatives said counseling and support services were being made available to teammates, coaches and the campus community.

Further details, including an official incident report and any potential charges, will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation and the district attorney’s review.
