Tyreek Hill was filmed shouting angrily on the Miami Dolphins' sideline as the team stumbled in its season opener, a 33-8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
Miami produced just 43 total yards in the first half and trailed for much of the game, and CBS television cameras captured Hill venting to an assistant coach on the sideline. In the footage Hill is animated, shouting and shaking the hands of who appeared to be wide receivers coach Robert Prince while making his point.
The Colts started Daniel Jones, who had been expected to serve as a backup when he signed with Indianapolis, and Jones completed 21 passes for 257 yards and a touchdown. The Colts' balanced attack and opportunistic defense limited Miami's offense for much of the afternoon.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa completed 14 of his passes for 114 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions; his only touchdown pass came late in the game. Hill finished with four receptions for 40 yards in the rout.
The visible frustration from Hill came amid an ongoing public discussion about his future with the franchise. In recent months Hill posted a brief trade demand on social media, writing "I'm out bro," then later walked the comment back when a trade did not materialize. ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler said in August that several teams were monitoring Hill's situation, and quoted league sources saying Miami had been telling other clubs, "No, we're not trading Tyreek Hill," while teams continued to keep an eye on whether he might become available.
Sunday's result raised immediate questions about Miami's offense after a poor first half against a team that entered the game without a clear-cut starting quarterback. The loss is the Dolphins' first of the regular season and will intensify scrutiny of their preparation and in-game adjustments.
The Colts improved their record with the victory and will turn their attention to the next game on their schedule, while Miami faces the challenge of regrouping offensively and addressing personnel and tactical issues after a lopsided opener.
Coaches and players from both teams were scheduled to address the media after the game, and further comments from Miami's coaching staff and front office could clarify whether the team's approach or personnel decisions will change in the immediate future.
