Tyrell Malacia offered last-minute route out of Manchester United as Turkish side express interest

Tyrell Malacia has been offered a potential exit from Manchester United after Turkish Super Lig side Eyupsport made contact about a season-long loan, British media reported Wednesday, leaving the left-back with roughly 48 hours to complete a move before Turkey’s transfer window closes on Sept. 12.

Malacia is the only remaining member of the group of five players placed on United’s summer transfer list who has yet to secure a move. A proposed loan to Spanish side Elche collapsed on deadline day, and the club have left him training separately at Carrington while he seeks an exit. According to the report in The Sun, the Eyupsport approach would represent Malacia’s latest opportunity to leave Old Trafford either on loan or permanently.

Four of the five players put on the list earlier in the summer have since left United, either on loan or in permanent deals. The clear-out follows United’s decision to reshuffle the squad after a turbulent period, with the club also agreeing an extended-window loan for goalkeeper André Onana to Turkish side Trabzonspor earlier in the transfer window.

Malacia joined United from Feyenoord in 2022 and was the manager’s first signing at the time, arriving for a reported fee of £14.6 million. He has made 47 appearances for the club, with the bulk of those coming in his first season. His contract at Old Trafford runs until the end of this campaign.

The impending deadline has added urgency to Malacia’s situation after he spent the summer training away from the first-team squad. If a move to Eyupsport can be finalised before Turkey’s registration period ends, it would bring to a close his three-year spell at United.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand defended the club’s decision to clear out several out-of-favour players, saying the squad needed harmony to move forward. "The squad is the most important thing," Ferdinand said on his podcast. "Keeping the harmony and ambience in the squad is the be-all and end-all if you're going to make strides to be a more positive football club, where you aren't going to have those distractions around. The last thing anyone needs is [players] being around the place and having to train separately. There's always going to be an undercurrent of a negative story hanging around the place if they stayed. So I think it's good for everybody that they've got out."

Should an agreement be reached, Malacia would become the latest player to depart United amid a summer of significant squad turnover. With the Turkish window closing imminently, United are likely to conclude negotiations swiftly if both clubs and the player can agree terms.
