A Manchester United supporter who has gone viral for refusing to cut his hair until Ruben Amorim's side win five games in a row was attacked by a fellow fan at Old Trafford on Saturday, during United’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea. Frank Ilett, who runs the social media account The United Strand, has built a following of about 364,000 on Instagram by providing daily updates on the length of his hair and weighing in on United news and commentary. He is on day 351 of the challenge, a stunt that began last October to inject humor during a difficult period for the club.

Video from the concourse shows another supporter approaching Ilett, grabbing his hair and attempting to shove him to the ground before security intervened. Ilett was pulled back to safety and appeared shaken, while the assailant was restrained. The man shouted that Ilett was not a United fan and directed expletives toward him. The clip circulated widely on social media, drawing reaction from fans and commentators.

Post-match, Ilett posted on Instagram that the day had not spoiled his mood. He shared a photo from the stands and wrote: “What a place. Wet hair, but still a smile on my face! A big win today! 1 down, 4 to go. COME ON UNITED!”

In a BBC interview this week, Ilett said the hair challenge has lasted longer than he expected and that the journey has attracted a sizable following. “It’s been an absolutely crazy journey – I never expected my hair, or my following, to be as big as it has,” he said. Looking ahead, he hinted a haircut could come later in the year if United keep winning, with the ideal ending being one of the players cutting it at Old Trafford.

United’s victory over Chelsea means they have begun the five-win sequence toward the target, with four more victories needed. They are set to travel to Brentford next week before hosting Sunderland, ahead of the October international break, as Ilett continues day by day with his attention firmly on the five-win milestone.
