Week 1 NFL sparks aggressive sportsbook promos as operators vie for new customers

Sportsbooks across the United States have rolled out aggressive welcome promotions for Week 1 of the NFL season, with several major operators increasing bonus amounts and loosening terms to attract new customers ahead of the busiest betting period of the year.

FanDuel is offering a boosted new-user deal that promises $300 in bonus bets after a $5 wager if that initial bet wins. BetMGM is promoting its POSTBET code, which refunds a losing first wager in bonus bets up to $1,500. Fanatics is touting a new-user FanCash package — bet $10 to get $100 in FanCash plus a chance to earn up to $100 back in FanCash on individual football gamedays — while bet365 is promoting a Bet $5, Get $300 welcome offer that applies whether the qualifying wager wins or loses.

The FanDuel promotion is a temporary increase from its usual welcome offer and is aimed at new customers who have not previously created an account. The operator’s sign-up process requires selecting a state, creating an account, making a deposit and placing the qualifying $5 wager. The promotion is available in a long list of states that permit FanDuel’s operations, including Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming. The offer is restricted to new players 21 and older; customers are directed to call 1-800-GAMBLER for problem-gambling resources and to consult the full terms and conditions on FanDuel’s site.

BetMGM’s POSTBET code guarantees that a losing first wager will be returned in bonus bets up to $1,500, a value aimed at bettors planning larger opening-season stakes. To use the offer, customers choose a bonus, confirm their state, register and enter the promo code POSTBET before making a deposit and placing their first bet. BetMGM lists availability in many states, including Arizona, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming. BetMGM’s promotional pages also reference state-specific help lines for problem gambling — for example, 877-8-HOPENY or text HOPENY (467369) for New York and 1-800-327-5050 for Massachusetts — and note that bonus-bet expirations, wagering requirements and other conditions apply.

Fanatics’ welcome package centers on FanCash, a loyalty-style credit that can be used on the platform. New users who place a qualifying $10 wager may receive $100 in FanCash, and the operator is also promoting an ongoing benefit that can return up to $100 in FanCash for qualifying losing wagers on football gamedays. The Fanatics offer requires users to apply the promotion in their bet slip and to place a cash wager of $1 or more with minimum odds of -500 or longer for 10 consecutive days beginning the day the account is established. Fanatics’ promotion is available to new customers in specified states, and the FanCash issued for losing wagers expires seven days after issuance. The operator’s terms exclude New York from portions of the promotion and make clear that separate in-app requirements and limitations apply.

Bet365’s Week 1 welcome offer, promoted under the NYPBET code, advertises that a $5 qualifying wager will generate $300 in bonus bets whether the initial bet wins or loses. New customers must enter the code during registration, make a minimum deposit of $10 and place a qualifying wager at minimum odds (typically -500 or longer). The operator warns that bonus bets are excluded from returns and that time limits and state restrictions apply; bet365’s promotion is available in select states such as Arizona, Colorado, New Jersey, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Louisiana, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Ohio.

Operators emphasized that promotional offers vary substantially by state, that most offers are restricted to new customers and that age limits and responsible-gambling resources apply. Advertised values often come with caveats: bonus bets may expire within days of issuance, promotional credits are frequently excluded from payout returns, and qualifying wagers can require minimum odds or settling conditions. The operators’ sign-up instructions commonly include choosing an eligible state, creating login details, entering a promo code when required, making a deposit and placing a qualifying wager.

The competitive promotional landscape is common at the start of the NFL regular season, when sportsbooks seek to acquire or reactivate customers ahead of a concentrated slate of games. States where sports betting is legal and regulated see the most variation in offers, reflecting different market dynamics and local regulatory requirements. Consumers should read each operator’s terms and conditions and verify availability and legal status in their state before registering.

Public health guidance and regulatory notices accompany many of the promotions. Most offers include a direction to call 1-800-GAMBLER for problem-gambling help; individual operators and state regulators may provide additional helplines and resources. Responsible-gambling messaging typically notes age restrictions, the temporary nature of promotional credits and the need to understand wagering requirements.

Prospective bettors should compare the full terms of rival promotions, including bonus expirations, wagering requirements, minimum-odds thresholds and state exclusions, before committing funds. The specifics of each offer can materially affect value, and operators can change or withdraw promotions as the season progresses.
