Xander Schauffele to skip Ryder Cup warm-up after birth of son
Defending major champion will miss Procore Championship to be home with newborn Victor; he remains on U.S. Ryder Cup team

Xander Schauffele will not play in the Procore Championship this week as he remains home with his newborn son, the 31-year-old said.
Schauffele told The Associated Press that his wife, Maya, recently gave birth to a boy they named Victor. The decision means Schauffele will be one of two members of the U.S. Ryder Cup team not taking part in the PGA Tour's Procore event as a tuneup for the team competition.
Schauffele, who won the PGA Championship and The Open in 2024, automatically qualified for the United States Ryder Cup team and will make his third appearance in the biennial matches. He said in late August that whether he would play in Napa, California, depended on the timing of the baby's arrival and on needing a break from the grind of the season.
"If I don’t think playing is going to help me, then I won’t play," Schauffele said at the BMW Championship. He confirmed his absence to the AP after Victor's birth.
This season has been less consistent for Schauffele. He missed several weeks early in the year while recovering from a rib injury and has not recorded a victory in 2025. He has, however, extended a streak of making 36-hole cuts to 71 consecutive events and finished inside the top 10 at two of the four majors this year — the Masters and The Open — though he did not place inside the top five in those events.

Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau are the only two members of the U.S. Ryder Cup side not listed in the Procore field. DeChambeau is skipping the event because he is not a member of the PGA Tour. The Procore Championship has become a regular tuneup for U.S. team members in Ryder Cup years, providing competitive holes and a chance to refine pairings ahead of the matches.
The Ryder Cup begins Sept. 26, when the United States will seek to reclaim the trophy after its 2023 loss at Bethpage Black. Schauffele's absence from the Procore Championship does not affect his place on the team, and he is expected to travel to the Ryder Cup as part of the U.S. roster.
