Yamamoto's near no-hitter ends on ninth-inning homer; Orioles walk off Dodgers 4-3

Yoshinobu Yamamoto carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning Saturday before Baltimore shortstop Jackson Holliday connected for a solo home run with one out remaining, ending the Los Angeles pitcher's bid and setting the stage for the Orioles' 4-3 walk-off win.

Yamamoto struck out 10 and walked two while working 8 2/3 innings in the contest at Oriole Park, allowing the lone hit late in the game. Baltimore rallied to score the decisive run in the bottom of the ninth on a walk-off single by Emmanuel Rivera.

The homer by Holliday — a shortstop prospect for the Orioles — came with the Dodgers two outs from a no-hitter, a rarity in the major leagues this season. Yamamoto, who has been one of Los Angeles' primary starters since joining the club, exited having dominated much of the night despite the late blemish.

Baltimore's victory came after several lead changes. The walk-off by Rivera completed a comeback that overcame Los Angeles' bullpen and ended the day on a high note for the home side.

Major League Baseball has not recorded a no-hitter in the 2025 season to date; the last no-hitter league-wide was a combined effort by three Chicago Cubs pitchers on Sept. 4, 2024, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The most recent solo no-hitter was thrown by Blake Snell on Aug. 2, 2024, when he was a member of the San Francisco Giants.

Managers and players on both teams noted the significance of the late game swing for Baltimore and the quality of Yamamoto's outing for the Dodgers, which included double-digit strikeouts. The result leaves Los Angeles without a no-hitter this year and gives the Orioles a dramatic finish in front of their home crowd.

The loss will be recorded against Yamamoto's line despite the standout performance, and the Orioles advance with a narrow victory that underscored the volatility of late-inning baseball.

The Dodgers and Orioles will resume their schedules with routine travel and series matchups pending, and both clubs will reflect on a game that featured a near-historic pitching effort and an immediate offensive response that decided the outcome.
