Yoshinobu Yamamoto's no-hit bid ends with one out to go as Orioles walk off Dodgers, 4-3

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was one out away from completing what would have been the first no-hitter of the 2025 season before Baltimore shortstop Jackson Holliday connected for a solo home run, ending the Los Angeles starter's bid and altering the game's outcome. The Baltimore Orioles went on to beat the Dodgers 4-3 on Saturday when Emmanuel Rivera delivered a walk-off single.

Yamamoto worked 8 2/3 innings, striking out 10 and issuing two walks. The lone hit he allowed was Holliday's home run with one out remaining in the ninth inning. Los Angeles' loss came after a late rally by the Orioles culminated in Rivera's game-ending hit.

The near no-hitter continued a stretch in which Major League Baseball has not yet recorded a no-hit game this year. The most recent no-hitter at the major-league level occurred on Sept. 4, 2024, when three Chicago Cubs pitchers combined to blank the Pittsburgh Pirates. The last solo no-hitter was thrown by Blake Snell on Aug. 2, 2024, when Snell, then with the San Francisco Giants, shut down the Cincinnati Reds.

Yamamoto, acquired by the Dodgers prior to the season, had been effective throughout the outing, keeping Baltimore off the scoreboard until the late stages. Jackson Holliday's homer erased the bid but left Yamamoto's final line notable for its dominance: 8 2/3 innings and double-digit strikeouts. The Orioles capitalized on the momentum shift in the bottom of the ninth, when Rivera's single produced the walk-off victory.

The game, played Saturday in Baltimore, marked a dramatic finish after Yamamoto had navigated through most of the lineup multiple times. Los Angeles' staff and starters have had several strong individual performances this season, but the team — like the rest of MLB — has not yet recorded a no-hitter in 2025.

Baltimore's walk-off capped a game in which pitching and late-inning offense intersected to decide the result. Yamamoto's near-miss will stand as one of the season's most notable individual outings, while the Orioles earned a come-from-behind win on a decisive ninth-inning play.
