Changan Deepal S07 electric SUV heads to UK with £39,990 price tag

The Deepal S07, a new electric SUV from Chinese manufacturer Changan, will arrive in the United Kingdom by the end of the year with a starting price of £39,990. The all-electric SUV is powered by a 160 kW motor and offers a claimed 295 miles of range on a single charge. A rear-wheel-drive configuration delivers about 215 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, with 0-62 mph achieved in 7.9 seconds. DC fast charging can restore 10 to 80 percent of the battery in about 48 minutes.

Designed in Turin at Changan’s European centre, the S07 will be engineered for the UK market at the company’s Birmingham research and development base after production in China. It will be sold through an initial 20 Changan UK dealerships, with plans to expand to 50 by the end of 2025. The car is priced above some rivals, including the Kia EV3 at £32,940 and the Skoda Elroq at £31,710.

Changan has been present in Europe for more than two decades, and the S07 is part of the company’s long-running European strategy. Officials said the model has been tested and calibrated in the UK and adapted more than 150 times for local conditions. It carries a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and comes with a seven-year or 100,000-mile vehicle warranty, underscoring the brand’s emphasis on durability and aftersales support.

Exterior styling blends cues from several contemporary models, with a front that nods to Polestar 4 design and a rear that evokes MG4, complemented by hidden door handles and a full-width LED light bar. The 80 kWh battery powers a rear‑wheel‑drive setup that conservationists say balances efficiency with performance.

Inside, the S07 is packed with technology aimed at a modern, connected driving experience. Standard features include a panoramic sunroof, wraparound interior accents described as yacht-inspired, heated and ventilated vegan seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 14-speaker premium sound system with a driver-location speaker in the headrest. The interior centerpiece is a 15.6-inch sunflower rotating touchscreen that tilts to face the driver, complemented by gesture recognition and a head-up display with augmented reality navigation. LED ambient lighting adds to the cabin’s ambience.

Nic Thomas, managing director of Changan UK, said the S07 is designed to make electric driving accessible, enjoyable and practical for UK consumers. He described the model as combining sleek design, intuitive technology tailored to customers, and real-world range at a price point that should resonate with British buyers seeking a high-quality EV without compromise.

Availability begins immediately at the 20 Changan UK dealers, with plans to expand to 50 sites by the end of 2025. The rollout will be supported by a UK parts hub and an aftersales network aimed at delivering what the company calls gold-standard customer care.
