Thousands report outages affecting Gmail, Drive and Google Workspace; major cities hit as Google investigates
A widespread outage affecting Google services disrupted email and access to various Google apps for thousands of users across the United States, according to outage-tracking services.
Downdetector said the disruption began around 10:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, with reports of problems logging into Google and Gmail accounts. Google’s Gmail, Google Workspace, Google Drive, Google Cloud, and other services were affected, and users in major metropolitan areas including New York, Seattle, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco experienced outages affecting login, sending or receiving emails, and calendar or video-call features.
Google did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The outage underscores the cloud-reliant nature of Google’s services, which run across multiple data centers worldwide and support email, storage, collaboration and communications for millions of users.
People and businesses that rely on Google services for email, file storage and real-time collaboration faced disruption, with some users reporting delayed access or intermittent service as engineers investigated the cause.
