Porsche to Offer 11kW Wireless Charging Option for New £100,000 Cayenne Electric

Porsche will offer a manufacturer-supported wireless charging pad for its new Cayenne Electric SUV, the company said, promising inductive charging of up to 11kW that it says is faster than a conventional 7kW domestic wallbox.

The accessory, officially called the Porsche Wireless Charger (PWC), is available as an option for the new Cayenne Electric, a model with a starting price above £100,000 that is due to be unveiled next week. Porsche described the system as the first manufacturer-supported inductive charging solution to reach the market.

Porsche said the charging pad can be installed on a driveway, in a car port or inside a garage. The system uses electromagnetic induction to transfer power from a ground-mounted pad to a receiver fitted to the vehicle, allowing drivers to charge without a physical cable connection. Porsche stated the PWC delivers up to 11kW, providing higher charging rates than a typical 7kW home wallbox.

The company highlighted environmental resilience as a feature, saying the pad is capable of functioning in temperatures ranging from minus 40 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius and is not affected by rainwater or debris such as leaves and snow. Porsche also noted the system will operate during winter months in the U.K.

Porsche confirmed the wireless option will be offered in addition to conventional wired charging and that it will be an extra-cost option. The automaker has not disclosed final pricing or installation costs for the PWC.

Automakers and suppliers have tested inductive charging technologies in recent years, positioning them as a convenience feature that removes the need to plug in a cable. Porsche’s announcement places a factory-backed wireless solution into the premium electric SUV segment and signals interest in manufacturer-supported installations rather than aftermarket add-ons.

The Cayenne Electric and its optional PWC will be introduced at the model’s official unveiling next week. Porsche has outlined technical specifications for the charging pad but has not released detailed timelines for customer deliveries of the wireless option.
