Tesco online services restored after roughly one-hour outage
Site and app problems left thousands of UK customers unable to shop online; DownDetector reports most issues affected the app

Tesco's website and mobile app were restored on Tuesday after an outage of roughly one hour that left thousands of customers unable to access online grocery services, according to the outage tracker DownDetector and posts on social media.
Reports of problems began just after 8 a.m. BST and affected more than 1,200 users across the UK, DownDetector showed. Of those who reported issues, about 75% said they were having difficulty with the app, 23% reported problems with the website and 2% reported issues at checkout.
Customers took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to describe errors and disruption. One user wrote that the "entire app is full of errors" and that they "can't do anything on the app not even search." Another said they were unable to add items to a relative's order and appealed for help, adding that the app and website were down.
Tesco confirmed to the Daily Mail at about 9:30 a.m. BST that services had been restored. The company did not immediately provide detailed information about the cause of the outage.
The interruption temporarily prevented customers from browsing, searching and completing orders through Tesco's digital channels, which are among the most widely used online grocery services in the United Kingdom. Problems with retail digital platforms typically prompt customers to seek updates on official company channels and third-party outage trackers such as DownDetector.
There were no immediate reports that payments or deliveries were affected beyond the inability to place orders during the outage window. Tesco did not announce any compensation or changes to scheduled deliveries in connection with the disruption.
Retailers increasingly rely on online systems for orders, inventory and customer accounts, and even short disruptions can affect large numbers of shoppers. Tesco's rapid restoration of service limited the duration of the impact, and the company has been contacted for further comment about steps to prevent a recurrence.
