More than 10 anti-Trump protesters were arrested Tuesday near Manhattan’s United Nations headquarters as President Donald Trump addressed the General Assembly, police said.

Crowds shouting “No Trump! No fascist USA!” and waving signs reading “Reject Trump” and “Arrest Trump” blocked traffic at East 46th Street and Third Avenue, prompting police to move in and cuff a number of demonstrators as they were detained and escorted toward NYPD headquarters for processing.

Photos from the scene showed detained protesters being placed on an NYPD bus and transported away from the United Nations, a law-enforcement source told the New York Post.

In addition to the anti-Trump demonstrators, more than a dozen Iranian regime opponents gathered in Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza near the UN, carrying signs urging the release of a group of young prisoners sentenced to death in Iran. One sign read, “Stand with the voice of 15 innocent youth in Iran facing execution.” A small group of anti-Israel protesters also gathered near Lexington Avenue in the area by early afternoon.

The climate-activist group Extinction Rebellion disrupted traffic near one of the UN checkpoints. Organizer Matthew Menzies told The Post, “We did this because we believe the world deserves better. The United Nations has been working for years trying to address climate change, and they have consistently, particularly the superpowers, global superpowers have consistently failed to meet those goals, to meet sustainability needs.” He added, “And right now, the world is on fire.”

The demonstrations unfolded as leaders from around the world gathered for the United Nations’ 80th General Assembly session. Trump delivered remarks amid a wide range of security, climate, and foreign-policy concerns at the high-profile gathering, which drew protesters from multiple groups throughout the city. The protest featured rows of photos labeled as people who had “Fallen for Freedom.”

Police said there were multiple arrests associated with the demonstrations, and there were no immediate reports of injuries.
