California man released on bail after arrest in ABC10 shooting in Sacramento

A 64-year-old Sacramento man was released from custody Saturday after posting $200,000 bail following his arrest in connection with a shooting outside ABC10 in Sacramento Friday afternoon. Anibal Hernandez Santana was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied building and negligent discharge of a firearm. Police said there were employees inside the building at the time, but no injuries were reported. Santana is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, according to jail records. A mugshot was not immediately available.

Authorities said the shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. Friday at the ABC10 building. Shots were fired from a vehicle, and bullet holes were observed in a window, with video captured by a local reporter showing at least three holes. Responding officers traced the suspect's vehicle, which helped lead to the arrest. The motive is under investigation, with the FBI assisting.

ABC10 is owned by Tegna, and Nexstar Media Group is in the process of acquiring Tegna for about $6.2 billion, a corporate context that figures into broader coverage of broadcast outlets in the region.

A small protest occurred outside the station on Thursday, about 15 people gathered to object to Disney's decision to pull Jimmy Kimmel from ABC after comments about Charlie Kirk and his alleged assassin. Authorities said there were no injuries related to the protests, and the incident outside the station did not appear to be connected to Friday's shooting.

In the wake of the incident, officials said there will be extra police patrols near ABC7 in San Francisco as a precaution while investigators review the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Santana is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, according to jail records. No additional details about the investigation were immediately released.
