Georgia sheriff: 1 dead, 2 arrested after Augusta Mall shooting
Shooting followed a fistfight at the Augusta Mall; two suspects remain at large as investigators press on
One person was killed Tuesday when a fistfight at the Augusta Mall in Augusta, Georgia, ended with gunfire, authorities said.
Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley told reporters that two people were in custody by Tuesday afternoon as investigators searched for two others.
Brantley said mall security video helped deputies quickly identify the suspects.
SWAT team members went store by store to evacuate shoppers and employees who had taken cover inside stores.
The shooting victim was one of about six people involved in the initial fight, Brantley said, and no other person was seriously injured.
The Augusta Mall was closed after the shooting.
Investigators were reviewing footage and interviewing witnesses as the investigation continued. No motive has been released.
