Kirk legacy credited in 2024 youth vote shift as life celebration planned
Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk is remembered as Republicans credit him with energizing younger voters for Trump in 2024; a Fox News voter analysis examined the 18-29 bloc.

Tributes are pouring in as Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk is remembered ahead of a life celebration planned in Arizona on Sunday. Republicans across the party credit Kirk with broadening the GOP's appeal to younger voters and with contributing to Donald Trump's performance among youth in the 2024 race.
Anthony DeWitt, a former TPUSA staffer, described Kirk's grassroots network as monumental in energizing young voters to participate in 2024, noting activities such as door knocking, voter registration drives and conference attendance were central to the effort. "Getting young people knocking doors, chasing ballots, getting signatures, signing up new voters, attending conferences, that was the key to winning the 2024 election," DeWitt said. A Fox News voter analysis found Trump won 47% of voters aged 18-29, while Harris carried 51% in that cohort.
Beyond the aggregate numbers, the analysis shows Trump improved in key battleground states compared with 2020. In Michigan, the 18-29 group backed Trump 50% to 48% for Harris; in Arizona, Trump was at 48% to Harris's 51%. Overall, Trump carried Michigan and Arizona and won 312 electoral votes. The data reflect an 11-point swing in 18-29 support since 2020, when 36% backed Trump.
Colin Reed, a Republican strategist based in Washington, said Kirk's work helped expand the party's tent. "A generation ago, it would have been unthinkable for a Republican candidate to run nearly even with a Democratic standard-bearer among younger voters who had Hollywood and celebrity endorsements," Reed wrote to Fox News Digital, alluding to Harris's star power in 2024. "Charlie opened the doors for younger people to not only consider the conservative movement but embrace it and champion its principles as a ticket to prosperity and happiness."
At a vigil at Arizona State University in Tempe, TPUSA leaders including Turning Point Action's Tyler Bowyer described 2026 as the "Charlie Kirk election," signaling plans to rally around the movement and its figures in the years ahead. "2028 will be the Kirk-Vance election," Bowyer said, underscoring the ongoing effort to mobilize younger voters around Kirk's legacy.
Observers say the attention to Kirk's approach highlights the ongoing contest to attract younger voters amid a polarized political environment. While the 2024 outcome is settled in part by coalition-building and turnout among youth, supporters argue that Kirk's organizing model — in-person canvassing, campus activity and cross-channel engagement — remains a core portion of how the party engages younger generations as campaigns prepare for future elections.
