Memorial for Charlie Kirk features comfort from Usha Vance, JD. Vance tribute

GLENDALE, ARIZONA — A public memorial for Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk drew thousands of young conservatives to State Farm Stadium on Sept. 21, 2025, to honor his life and philosophy. Erika Kirk, his widow, described a moment of comforting support she received from second lady Usha Vance in the immediate aftermath of his assassination, calling Vance a precious woman and recounting how her words helped her endure the loss.

During her remarks, Erika Kirk said she had confided in Usha Vance about how she did not know how she could endure the loss of the husband and father of their two children. Vance offered an analogy about the final 15 minutes of a turbulent airplane ride, telling Erika that she would get through those moments, and the next 15 minutes after that.

Vice President JD Vance addressed the packed crowd, delivering a tribute to his close friend. 'They tried to silence our dear friend Charlie Kirk,' Vance said. 'And tonight, we speak with Charlie and for Charlie, louder than ever.' He praised Kirk’s defense of family and traditional values as the foundation of a thriving society, and he noted that Kirk’s true legacy was not just in what he said publicly but in the life he lived.

Vance also described Kirk as a pivotal influence in President Donald Trump’s decision to choose him as a running mate in the 2024 election. Kirk's collaboration with Vance, his ideas about history and public policy, helped shape a path for the administration. Following Kirk’s death, Vance and Usha Vance accompanied Erika Kirk aboard Air Force Two to return his casket to Arizona. In Salt Lake City, the vice president walked beside the flag-draped casket as it was carried across the tarmac.

The memorial also touched on the long-standing alliance between Kirk and Vance, and the way the two men crossed political and policy lines in their shared emphasis on history, culture and civic engagement. Vance later filled in for his 'dear friend' on The Charlie Kirk Show, reiterating his reflections on the movement and Kirk’s enduring influence.
