A 23-year-old man identified as Hunter Nadeau was charged with second-degree murder in connection with a shooting at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire, Saturday night. The private club was hosting a wedding reception when a gunman opened fire around 7:30 p.m., authorities said, killing one guest and wounding two others. Nadeau was taken into custody at the scene, and New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella announced the charges Sunday morning. He is scheduled to be arraigned in the Ninth Circuit Court in Nashua on Monday.
Video surveillance showed there was only one shooter, prosecutors and police said. Officials said additional charges tied to the wounded victims are likely as the investigation continues.
Witness Tom Bartelson, who was attending the wedding with his family, said the gunman fired after shouting "free Palestine" and "the children are safe." Bartelson described guests diving for cover as a barrage of shots rang out and first responders moved in to treat the wounded.
Law enforcement said the gunman was arrested at the scene and that roads leading to the Sky Meadow Country Club were temporarily blocked. Ambulances and other responders gathered at a nearby hotel that was used as a reunification center for relatives and witnesses.
Robert Steven DeCesare, 58, was identified as the man who died in the shooting; two other adults were wounded, with authorities not immediately releasing their identities. The wedding party and guests were evacuated or sheltered in place as investigators collected evidence at the country club.
The incident comes as part of a broader national conversation about gun violence in the United States. Officials did not indicate any broader threat to the public and said the investigation remains active as prosecutors consider additional charges.
