Off-duty NYPD officer shoots man who allegedly tried to rob her and husband at Penn Station
Area around Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan closed as police investigate; officials say the officer and her husband, both off-duty, were unharmed and delays are expected.

An off-duty New York City police officer shot a man who allegedly tried to rob her and her husband inside Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan Wednesday evening, authorities said.
The officer and her husband, who was also off duty, were on their way home when the 32-year-old suspect approached them around 7 p.m. in the busy transit hub, according to law enforcement officials. The officer discharged her firearm and struck the suspect; the man’s condition was not immediately known, authorities said.

Investigators from the New York Police Department said the incident occurred near West 34th Street between 8th and 7th Avenues. The area was shut down for a police investigation, and motorists and riders were urged to avoid the vicinity with officials warning of delays in the surrounding streets.
The NYPD said the investigation is ongoing and no charges had been announced as of Wednesday night. Officials did not release additional details about the suspect or any other individuals involved, including the status of the officer and her husband beyond noting that both were uninjured.
Penn Station is one of the busiest transit hubs in New York City, serving multiple rail lines and tens of thousands of passengers daily. Incidents of this kind, while uncommon, often prompt reviews of security procedures in major transit centers and contribute to ongoing discussions about policing and public safety in urban settings.
