Senate confirms Kimberly Guilfoyle as U.S. Ambassador to Greece
Former Fox News host and ex-fiancée of Donald Trump Jr. set to be sworn in and stationed in Athens

The Senate on Thursday approved Kimberly Guilfoyle's nomination as the United States ambassador to Greece by a 51-47 vote, completing a broad package of confirmations for Trump-era nominees. Guilfoyle, 56, a former Fox News host and longtime ally of former President Donald Trump, is set to replace Ambassador George Tsunis and will soon be sworn in before heading to Athens to assume duties at the U.S. Embassy.
Her confirmation followed a July 9 hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where Republican members on the panel backed advancing her nomination and one Democrat, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, joined in support. The full confirmation came after Democrats delayed dozens of nominees until after the August recess as part of broader partisan fights in Congress.
Guilfoyle's professional arc spans television, fundraising and political advocacy. A longtime Trump ally, she rose to prominence as a co-host of Fox News's The Five, left the network in 2018 to work with the Trump-aligned America First political action committee, and later served as a senior adviser to Trump-era campaigns. In her personal life, she was married for five years to Gavin Newsom when he was mayor of San Francisco, and she later became romantically linked to Donald Trump Jr., with an engagement that ended in 2024.
Officials say she will assume duties at the U.S. Embassy in Athens, with residence at the ambassador's residence, and will work on U.S.-Greece relations on democracy, security and regional issues in the eastern Mediterranean.
Guilfoyle's nomination comes as Greece is a focal point for U.S. diplomacy in the region, with shared interests in NATO operations, energy security and regional stability. Her appointment is part of a broader package of confirmations, which Republicans say helps staff government agencies, while Democrats have pointed to Senate delays over the August recess as evidence of partisan obstruction.
In a statement released after the vote, Guilfoyle thanked President Trump and the Senate for the trust placed in her, saying Greece's democracy and the rule of law are the ideals that inspired our Founders and continue to make America the greatest nation on Earth. "It is the honor of my life to serve as the first female Ambassador of the United States to the Hellenic Republic," she said.
